  • The Wedding Ring

    Adventure by silentwalrus1 · 21 Feb 2026
  • After the death of his wife, Lucas refused to let go of her ring. Only to one day find it allows her spirit to possess any woman who wears it.

Lucas and Cecilia Fields should have been busy planning the next stages of their lives like any other young couple: moving into a new house together, managing finances, careers, domineering in-laws, maybe even the possibility of kids. The whole nine yards. However, when Cecilia is tragically killed under dubious circumstances, Lucas' life is entirely up-ended. In his grief, he refuses to let Cecilia go and holds onto her wedding ring as a memento, unknowingly giving them a second chance to rekindle their relationship in unexpected ways...

    CHARACTERS
Lucas Fields (Player age 25) - The protagonist. 5ft 10" in height with an average somewhat athletic build. Has dark hair and brown eyes. Generally considered decently handsome, though the grief has left him somewhat unkempt. He works as the head of marketing at a decently sized company.

Cecilia Fields (21) When she was alive she had long, chestnut colored hair a cute button nose and soft features. She was 5ft 6" tall with a good hourglass figure and decent C-cup breasts. Despite her looks, she is shy and reserved with a strong sense of morals. She grew up in a religious household and was only recently coming out of her shell before her untimely death.

Jonathan Fields (60) Lucas' father and the CEO of the company Lucas works for. He is 6ft with a sturdy frame. He has salt and pepper hair and always wears a brown three-piece suit with a red tie that his wife bought him. He is a stern man that is focused on his work. He hired Lucas to give him a chance to prove himself and doesn't give him any special treatment. His coldness has lead to a strain in their relationship.

Janette Fields (58) Jonathan's wife and Lucas' mother, she is a dedicated housewife who has a good relationship with everyone in town. She is 5ft 8" with long red hair usually done up in a loose bun. She wears dresses or skirts almost exclusively. Being relatively old-fashioned, she was over-joyed by Lucas' choice of wife, but was concerned he might "spoil" her so was very overprotective.

Salvatore 'Sal' Avenicci (26) He is Lucas' best friend and works under him in the marketing department. He moved from New York to escape the big city. He is the stereotypical Italian: rowdy and brash but loyal to a fault. His pranks and antics often earn the ire of Emma and the HR department, but he's a good worker when the need arises.

Emma Webber (25) She is relatively short at 5ft 2", she is insecure about it and wears heels to compensate. She has short, curly blonde hair and a modest figure. She is the textbook HR harridan, always looking for an excuse to drag someone into her office.
She has a special hatred of Lucas for reasons he could never explain.

    RULES:
Initially, Cecilia can only possess someone for an hour. However, the limit increases the more people she possesses, or the more time she spends in one body. She can't access the memories of anyone she possesses. Her personality completely overwrites the person she's possessing. When she leaves a body, the victim gets a headache, becomes disoriented or loses consciousness completely depending on the constitution of the person, (i.e: their age, physical condition etc.) or how long she's been possessing them.

    SETTING & WORLD
Modern day in a fictional contemporary mid-western town.

The silence in the apartment felt heavy, the lack of Cecilia's presence pressing into you from all sides. You sit slumped in a worn leather armchair, staring at the wedding band in your palm. The gold was warm from your skin, the small diamond catching the weak afternoon light filtering through the half-closed blinds.

Just over two months. Sixty-three days since the incident. The police called it a hit-and-run on a rainy night. No witnesses, no suspects. Just a broken body and a ring the coroner cut from her swollen finger and handed to you in a plastic bag. You’d cleaned and polished it until it shone. You even put it on a sliver chain and haven't forgotten it since.

Your phone buzzed on the coffee table, rattling against an empty takeout container. The screen lighting up: DAD. You ignore it. It was the third call today. Probably about the quarterly report you’d missed. Work felt meaningless. Everything did.

The only thing that wasn’t meaningless was the weight of the ring in your hand. It was all you had left of her. Your shy, wonderful wife who’d been too nervous to even say ‘I love you’ on your first date, but who’d proudly written it in icing on your first anniversary cake. She was finally beginning to come out of her shell, because of you. Damn it Lucas, you just had to convince her to go to the theater on that day of all days!

A flicker of movement in the corner of your eye interrupts your moping. You looked up a desperate part of you hoping to see Cecilia's ghost or some sign she was here at least, but it was just the dust motes dancing in the sunbeam. Your apartment was empty. It was always empty now...

You close your fist around the ring. The metal biting into your palm.

    Quick Actions:
    1. Put the ring back in your pocket, the way you always do.
    2. Get up and finally answer your father’s call. Work won't wait for you forever.
    3. Go assess your sorry state in the mirror. (What would Cecilia think of you now?)
