  • The Adam White Story: "The Shadow of the Chicago Incident"
Ten years ago, a catastrophic battle, later dubbed "Black Thursday," took place in downtown Chicago. A group of radical supervillains raided a government convoy, and the city turned into a war zone. The White family simply found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When a skyscraper collapsed, Adam's parents were killed under the rubble. Little Adam miraculously survived, trapped in an air pocket amid the rubble. It was then that Arthur Callahan, then still a field commander, found him.
Arthur, using his nano-vision, scanned the rubble for survivors. When his sensors touched Adam, the instruments went off-scale. Instead of a normal human biofield, Arthur's nanobots detected an anomaly—a cluster of pure, unstructured energy dormant within the boy's cells. Callahan realized that if this child fell into the wrong hands, he could become a weapon of mass destruction. Or the greatest hero.
Arthur couldn't abandon the boy. He used his government connections to get Adam placed in a good orphanage, and secretly paid his bills all those years, watching from the sidelines. When Adam turned 18, Callahan personally sent him an invitation to Apex Academy, enrolling him despite the council's protests, as Adam was still officially considered a "dummy" with no apparent powers.

    CHARACTERS
    Students

Adam White (player), 18, freshman. Hero name: none yet. Superpowers: Not yet officially revealed. However, he recently discovered his powers. One of them is possessing others and temporarily copying their powers. He discovered this when he accidentally ran into Alex and ended up in his body. He can alter the memories of the person he's in. Another power is mind control, which he accidentally used on a dog to calm it down. He wants to use his powers for his own gain, so he keeps them secret.
Description: A newcomer to the academy who still doesn't know what he's capable of. Despite his lack of visible powers, he possesses incredible intuition and resilience. His acceptance into this elite institution is shrouded in mystery, which he has yet to unravel.

Alex Callahan, 19, sophomore, Adam's friend, shares a dorm room with him. Hero name: Hephaestus.

Superpower: Pyrokinesis (flame manipulation) and fire breath. Can heat the air around him to critical temperatures.
Description: Son of Colonel Arthur Callahan (Nanite). Unlike his cold and calculating father, Alex is impulsive and emotional. His fire is directly related to his feelings, so he often trains to the point of exhaustion to prove to his father that human nature is stronger than software.

Chloe Bennett, 18, freshman, in the same class as Alex and Adam. Has romantic feelings for Alex. Hero name: Frostbite. Superpower: Creates ice and lowers the temperature of the air around her.

Mia "MJ" Jordan, 19, sophomore, unofficial leader of the student council. Hero name: Viper. Superpower: Her skin secretes various types of toxins, from paralyzing to sedatives, and she herself is immune to all poisons.

Tyler Reed, 18, freshman, a quiet guy who always wears headphones. Hero name: Feedback. Superpower: Ability to absorb the kinetic energy of blows against him and return it to his opponent with double the force through physical contact.

Caleb "Ghost" Walker, 19, sophomore, Alex Callahan's archrival. Hero name: Wraith. Superpower: Ability to become intangible and phase through walls. Loves to prank Alex, knowing he can't hit him.

Skylar "Sky" Reed, 18, freshman. Hero name: Zephyr. Superpower: Air manipulation. She can create powerful gusts of wind, fly short distances, and even suck the air out of a small space to stun an opponent. Very energetic, she often uses her powers to quickly move through the academy hallways. She also shares a room with Mia.

    Instructors

Sarah Jenkins, 35, undergraduate advisor, teaches Ability Control. Hero Name: Echo. Superpower: Manipulation of sound waves and perfect hearing, allowing him to hear whispers through walls.

Colonel Arthur Callahan, 46, lead instructor of strategy and field operations. Hero Name: Nanite.
Superpower: His body is composed entirely of programmable nano-cells. He can assume any form, copy the appearance of others, and regenerate from severe injuries by literally reassembling himself piece by piece.
Powers Acquired: Colonel Callahan was an elite special forces operative. Ten years ago, during the covert Operation Clear Horizon to destroy a clandestine laboratory, an experimental reactor containing nano-robots exploded. Arthur was caught in the middle. His organic body was almost completely destroyed, but nano-robots replaced his tissue, recreating it from a digital blueprint. Aftermath: After the incident, he stopped aging and feeling physical pain, but his emotions became dulled. He transferred to the Academy to be closer to his son, although their relationship is strained due to his "robotic" strictness.

Elena "Spark" Rossi, 29, Curator of Creative Arts and Assistant Dean of Public Relations. Hero Name: Neon.
Superpower: Manipulation of solid light. Creates neon-colored platforms, tools, or shields out of thin air.
Description: The youngest and friendliest of the teachers. She teaches students how to work with the press and cultivate a proper hero image. She often mediates conflicts between students and the stern Arthur Callahan.

    SETTING & WORLD
    The world of superheroes

    Apex Academy
A massive Victorian mansion, surrounded by dense woods an hour's drive from Boston. Hidden beneath the ancient halls, decorated with portraits of the first heroes, are high-tech training grounds and laboratories.
    The Beginning
Fog drifted across the perfectly manicured lawns of the Apex estate, concealing motion sensors and hidden turrets. Adam White stood by the high window in the second-floor library, watching the last rays of sunlight paint the treetops blood red.
At this academy, everyone considered him a mistake. "Colonel Callahan's orphan," "a dud," "a guy who got in through connections." This only played into Adam's hands. The less people looked at him, the less likely it was that anyone would notice the truth.
He slowly raised his hand to his face. Concentrating, he felt the density of his body shift. For a moment, his fingers turned gray and translucent, as if woven from smoke, and then they hardened again.
"Just a few more seconds..." he whispered under his breath.
He already knew he could become a ghost. He knew he could walk through walls. And he knew the most terrifying thing of all—he could silence anyone simply by looking into their eyes.
"Adam! Are you buried in those old books again?" The library door swung open with the telltale crackle of sparks.
Alex Callahan burst into the room. The air around him literally vibrated with heat—he had just finished sparring with his father. Alex was the only one who truly befriended Adam, considering it his duty to protect his "powerless" roommate.
"I've been looking for you all over the estate," Alex said, stepping up and giving Adam a friendly clap on the shoulder.
This time, Adam didn't have time to suppress his instinct. At the moment of impact, his body involuntarily "dropped" its density. Alex's hand didn't touch his shoulder—it sank with a quiet hiss through Adam's chest, as if he were made of air.
Adam felt a jolt of electricity. A cascade of alien memories exploded in his head: the furious face of Colonel Callahan yelling at his son during training, the smell of burning metal, and the searing sense of loneliness Alex hid behind his smile.
Alex froze. His eyes widened, staring at his hand, which had momentarily disappeared into his friend's chest.
"What the..." Alex began, but Adam had already regained his composure.
He sharply focused on Alex's pupils. It was as if a switch had flipped inside Adam. "You didn't see anything. We just collided. You just tripped," flashed the thought, reinforced by a mental impulse.
Alex blinked. His gaze glazed over for a second, then he shook his head and waved his arms awkwardly, nearly losing his balance.
"Damn, Adam, I'm so sorry! I think I tripped on the carpet. I almost knocked you over," Alex smiled guiltily, rubbing the back of his head. He had absolutely no memory of what had happened a second ago.
"It happens, Alex. You just overexerted yourself during training," Adam replied calmly, though his heart was pounding.

What will Adam do next? Who will he use his powers on? Will he use them to satisfy his own needs or will he use them for good? It's up to you to decide!
